About the artist

Painting the country I grew up in

Jen Foxton is a Highfields-based artist whose current art practice features medium to large semi-abstract landscapes and still-life paintings on canvas in oil, acrylic or mixed media.

A bush upbringing in Central Queensland has engendered a deep reverence for our natural environment. This and her concerns about accelerating environmental change inspire much of her work.

By applying different paint layers, scraping back and reapplying paint, Jen's subjects reveal themselves, enticing the viewer to look more closely. Experimentation with colour and design, and a sense of the unknown are what most motivate her art practice.
